Criminal Activities
Conspiracy to Commit Assault
Agreement and planning with others to commit a violent attack (luring someone to a concealed opening and dousing them with boiling oil/tar). Conspiracy to commit violence and attempted murder or aggravated assault are crimes under U.S. law when there is intent and an overt act toward carrying out the plan.
Situation:
"The group reforms the 'freight train', recruits Dennis as their 'psycho' replacement, Dennis retrieves duct tape, zip ties and gloves and declares they will 'bash' Tim Murphy and 'destroy' the others. The group takes overt steps (arming and mobilizing) toward committing a violent attack at the reunion, constituting conspiracy and an attempted violent assault."
Criminal Threats
Knowingly making a threat to commit a violent act against another person (words or gestures that place a reasonable person in fear of imminent physical harm) can constitute a criminal threat or assault in U.S. jurisdictions. Simple verbal threats that place a victim in reasonable fear may be charged as misdemeanor assault or as a separate criminal-threats offense depending on the jurisdiction.
Situation:
"After being humiliated at the reunion, Dennis repeatedly yells threats such as 'I'm gonna k*ll you' and 'they're all gonna pay' directed at classmates (including Tim Murphy and other reunion attendees)."
Fraud
Making false statements or omissions to obtain federally backed relief loans (PPP) or using funds for purposes other than represented to the lender/SBA. Under federal law, knowingly making false statements to obtain loan proceeds (and misuse of those proceeds) can constitute bank fraud and related federal offenses.
Situation:
"Characters state that 'Adriano made fake tickets' and the attendees were denied/affected by those fake tickets at the reunion, indicating the creation/use of counterfeit reunion tickets."
Murder
Unlawful killing of another human being (murder). The additional act of cutting up and consuming human remains would be related to homicide and additional offenses (e.g., abuse of a corpse), and cannibalism is treated as part of serious violent felony conduct under U.S. law.
Situation:
"Other characters describe that Psycho Pete 'cut his family into little pieces and ate them for Christmas dinner' and that he was imprisoned and later released via an insanity plea. The episode presents these acts as past crimes committed by Psycho Pete."
Threats of arson
Threatening to burn down a building or property is a criminal act (often charged as terroristic threat, intimidation, or attempted arson depending on jurisdiction and actions).
Situation:
"Characters report that Psycho Pete 'threatened to burn down the building', which prompted extra security at the reunion; this is presented in the episode as a prior criminal threat made by Pete."
